¿WHAT IS?
The Body of Scientific, Penal and Criminal Investigations (CICPC), formerly Technical Judicial Police (PTJ) and originally as Judicial Technical Police (PTJ) is the lead agency for criminal investigations of Venezuela.
It is responsible for the scientific investigation of crimes with a view to later application of justice by the competent bodies. Its current CEO is the Commissioner General Jose Gregorio Sierra.
The story of this organization goes back to the mid-twentieth century. The February 20, 1958 the president of the Civic-military junta, Admiral Wolfgang Larrazabal, decided to create a police force dedicated to investigating various crimes by Decree No. 48 of the Board, in addition to establishing its function as an auxiliary of the judiciary, the Judicial Technical Police name.
The Law of Judicial Police of July 8, 1975 established its institutional structure and organization, but was later replaced by the Police Act Criminal Investigation September 11, 1998.
He eventually passed the 1999 constitution, which established in its Article 332 the need to create a body of scientific and Criminal investigations. Such name was changed to replace the Police Technical judical. In 2001 he began a reform of the structure and organization of the agency, which was finally demarcated in 2003.
